Renewable
Energy

|

|
Renewable energy refers to energy
derived from resources that are regenerative. Examples include photovoltaic
(solar energy), wind power, geothermal, biomass (i.e., wood, agricultural,
animal waste), hydroelectric power and tidal power.
Financing alternatives for
renewable project vary greatly. Government agencies, municipal
utilities and some non-profit organizations qualify for
tax-exempt
financing. Profit oriented projects can be financed using more
traditional financing vehicles, like
leases, loans
and even
performance contracts. Large public and private sector projects
(over $5 million) may qualify for
project financing.
Grants and other incentives
may be available regionally, which may be applied to the project and reduce
the cost of the project. Green Tags or
RECs (Renewable Energy
Credits) may also be created and sold, further improving the economics of
the project.
Catalyst will help by
structuring the financing to take advantage of the lowest cost alternatives
based on the particular circumstances of the individual project,
credit profiles, ownership and tax strategies.
