Distributed Generation (DG),
also known as distributed resources (DR), distributed energy resources (DER)
or dispersed power (DP), is a new trend in electric power generation.
It allows a customer to create (generate) power for their own use or to feed
back into a utility's distribution network.
The US Environmental Protection
Agency defines DG as
"small, modular, decentralized, grid-connected or off-grid energy systems
located in or near the place where energy is used."
The benefits of DG are
numerous, including: improved power quality, improved reliability, cost
savings through peak load or demand charge reduction, grid independence and
it's statement about being "green."
Distributed generation
technologies include:
Micro-turbines and electric
generators
Photovoltaics
Hydrogen technologies
Fuel Cells
Inverters, Converters and
Controllers
While Catalyst finances all of
these technologies, we have a particular
interest in:
Co-generation Projects (Combined
Heat and Power)
Renewable Energy
Projects
